What a great class! We reviewed everything we went over from our choreography last week and continued to build. This week we started to layer with the shimmy, incorporating arms and hip slides. We also learned the other classic foundation movement of belly dance, the undulation, also known as the belly roll. We're going to continue working on that one the whole time because it can be a tricky movement for a beginner, but starting now means we'll have a nice, solid practice by the time we're done.
Our choreography is looking pretty good already! We're only on week two and we've already gotten just a minute into the song, which is a great start! Our song is just over three and a half minutes, so that's an excellent foundation on which to build. The movements we've used early on are going to become the "chorus" piece for the entire song, so they'll be revisited throughout the piece of music, which is always fun. It's great to have a strong foundation to fall back on, and not just because it makes for an easier piece to choreograph. It looks really dynamic, and it's easier on the dancers because there's just that many fewer pieces to remember.
My goal is to finish out the choreography this week so I can put together a video of the completed piece. This will give everyone something to practice with, which can really help for those who wish to practice throughout the week. We'll have ten weeks left to build this choreography and polish it into something really nice! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone dance it at the end of the session!
