A Little Delayed Class Recap

It's been quite the weekend around here, which is why there was a delay in getting the class recap out. Between awful allergies, a lingering cold, and all of the events coming up this fall it's been a rough weekend to get on track. Still, I didn't want to leave anyone hanging after the weekend.

In the Drills and Techniques for Tribal Belly Dance class we focused on the movements we'll be using for the next set of steps in the choreography we're building for class. We introduced chest circles, which were broken down into lifts, drops, and slides. Then we moved on to arcing the hip to the front and back, then combined it with a front to back hip figure eight on the side. I don't have a name for this move, but it's kind of a modified hip figure eight on the side. These two movements come early on in the choreography. Next week we'll be building on this with a Turkish shimmy and the Arabic hip twist. By the end of class next week we'll have the whole one-minute segment of the belly dance choreography complete. It's the start to a fun little tribal style choreography that students can either build on or come to the next session and learn the next piece! On Friday we'll be halfway through the session and it's already looking pretty good! I'm really proud of all my students have accomplished thus far!

After that we moved onto ATS®. Since we had a few absences after last week we went over a few of the moves we covered last week. We also added a couple of new movements, like the flamenco turn, the arc arm turn, and reach and sit. After that we had a few fun improvisations, using a handful of the movements we've introduced in the classes prior, mixed with the movements reviewed in class. Our improvisations were broken up into slow and fast groups, so there was an easy, predictable flow between the moves with few tempo changes. We had a great time playing with the movements and the music. Next week we plan to continue building on our vocabulary of ATS® movements and practicing our skills at improvisation. Before long we will have introduced all of the Level 1 movements and will be focusing on skill building, becoming more confident with the movements, and building on our improvisational skills.

The Friday Recap

Okay, I know, I'm getting on it a little late again. Bear with me, I've been feeling under the weather. But I still wanted to make sure...
