Moving Right Along at Keefe at Night

I'm unfortunately getting this out late again. It's been quite the week, especially with being in recovery from being sick. However, we've got some good stuff going on this week, so I didn't just want to leave it off until next week. Better late than never, right?

We're just now three weeks into our classes at Keefe and we've already made it through the first minute and a quarter of the choreography! It's coming along so well! At this rate we may have time at the end of the session if anyone wants to learn something new, but we'll play it by ear at this point. We've got a little more to work on in the guitar section, then we're going to be returning to the "refrain" segment of music for a modification on the original section we worked on. Believe it or not, we've already done almost everything we need to know in the first full half of the piece! We'll be discussing options for what we will do once we're through with the choreography, but if everyone likes we can focus on putting some polish on it once we're through. In a twelve week course we can make this belly dance choreography look shiny!

This week I was supposed to be doing a video of the choreography to send out to everyone, but I didn't quite get there. I was still in recovery so I wasn't able to practice the choreography in full as much as I would like to, so I wasn't able to do a video of the full run through. However, we do have a video of the first two-thirds, so that's something to start with. The official video should hopefully drop on Friday (or Saturday because it may take me a day to post it). Why is the video not posted on my site? Because it's only available to students registered in the course at this point. When we complete the session I'll be posting a video of the whole choreography as an endpoint to our class. This is my first session doing any kind of video as an additional aid for my class, so we're testing it out to see how it goes. If it turns out to be useful, we'll keep offering the choreography videos for all the classes using choreography.

Also, as a bonus we're going to be selling coined hip scarves at our future classes! We've got a number of colors available, in both silver and gold. While we'd only originally decided to carry the chiffon scarves, my provider agreed we would also offer velvet hip scarves, though they come in a lesser variety of colors. I'm really looking forward to being able to provide these as an option at my classes. They will be available by cash, check, or credit card in class, as will any props should we use them in the future.

I'm super excited about this class. Our choreography is coming along so well, and it sounds like everyone's really picking it up! I know this because when I messed up the choreography (which I do from time to time), the whole class rang out letting me know the movement I skipped. That's one of those moments where I can really see how well my students are picking it up. I can tell they're building memory with the choreography because they're able to pick up on details like that. I have full confidence that they'll be able to do it without me by the end of the session!
