And We're Back (Here's What You Missed!)

It's been a little chaotic for me this holiday season. This time of year is always busy for me. It's not just the holidays, but it seems like there's so much going on! Everyone's schedule gets busy with family commitments, school events, and work parties, not to mention holiday shopping!

For me this holiday season has been especially busy. Not only do we have a December birthday in the house, but this is my first year back to teaching, dancing, and performing. That's all made for a busy season.

So what have you missed? Well, the big thing I didn't post about in all of the buzz of new classes and holiday madness was the Dance Space Student Show. I was invited to dance with the lovely dancers of the classes I take on Wednesday nights. Yes, I take classes. It's important for even instructors to advance their skills. The following videos are of the Level 3 ATS® class at the student show. Everyone was amazing, so if you missed out this year, you'll have to check it out next year!

This next piece I particularly love. It's not the first time I've ever danced to live music, but it's definitely the first time I've performed with a live vocalist.

Both of these performances were entirely improvisational, which is one of the amazing things about ATS®! Bonus, I'm not wearing my big zils, which are in desperate need of the right size elastic in order to stop moving around on my fingers. If there's one thing I've learned, it's the importance of properly fitted zils! If your zils are too loose they'll provide nothing but distraction.

Speaking of zils, that brings me to some upcoming news for my ATS® students. Starting in January, remember to bring your zils to class. We're going to start adding zil drills, as well as a few minutes of dancing with zils to finish out our classes. It's one more element to bring us further in our ATS® practice, and it's a lot of fun! Don't let those zils worry you, it's far easier than you'd think!

Additionally, if you don't mind the drive out to Worcester, these performances were done with the classes from The Dance Space. I take ATS® Level 2 & 3 on Wednesdays, but there are also other courses available, including ATS® Level 1 & 2 on Tuesdays and Tribal Fusion classes on Saturdays. If you've got interest in adding more dance to your week, check them out. It's totally worth your time.

Finally, as we're coming to a close to our 2018 classes, the first year of my classes back in Massachusetts, I was overjoyed to receive a gift from my students at PAC!

A beautiful new hip scarf!

What a way to end a year! My collection of hip scarves is growing, thanks to my students. They've got great taste too. I definitely feel appreciated, and I'm so grateful for the dance community I've become a part of this year.

And as a final note, don't forget to register for the 2019 Shimmy Mob! This year Natick, MA is on the map, and I'm registered as team leader. The event won't be a success without the participation of our dance community. Registration is now open, and we're looking for dancers, volunteers, and donors. The purpose of the Shimmy Mob is to raise awareness about domestic violence, as well as raise funds for our local domestic violence programs.

Early registration is $30 for adults, $19 for kids, with a small fee for shipping your shirt, and that's until January 16th. After that it will be $36 for adults and $26 for kids. Registration closes March 31st. Be sure to invite your community! This years dance is being selected as easy enough for dancers of all levels, even ones who have never attended a class before. All of the instructions will be sent once the choreography is finalized in early January. I look forward to dancing with all of you in the upcoming event!

We'll have another post about upcoming classes soon, along with further details about the Shimmy Mob and a recap of 2018. Stay tuned for details, and I can't wait to dance with you all in 2019!
